A Group of International Sewists is Attempting to Help 25,000 Girls with Life Changing Supplies

Fourth Annual Sew-A-Thon Launched by Sew Powerful

YUBA CITY, CA / ACCESS Newswire / July 31, 2025 / Sew Powerful, a Christian ministry that exists to employ and empower people to pursue life in all its fullness, is thrilled to announce its 4th annual Sew‑A‑Thon fundraiser, running from July 28 through September 30, 2025. Learn more at www.sewathon.org

The Sew‑A‑Thon challenges sewing enthusiasts across the globe to make purses during September and raise funds in support of the campaign. Each purse-filled with reusable hygiene supplies-costs just $10 to produce and enables a schoolgirl in Zambia to confidently attend school every day of the month.

2025 Sew-A-Thon Goals:

  • Raise $250,000

  • Enroll 1,000 purse‑makers

  • Engage 2,000 donors

The event is made possible thanks to the generous support of an impressive group of corporate sponsors-leaders in the sewing, quilting, and creative industries. Brands like BERNINA, Baby Lock, Aurifil, Oliso, KAI Scissors, Sweet Pea Machine Embroidery, AllBrands.com, CraftOptics, InfiniteAloe, My Girlfriend's Quilt Shoppe, Quilt Show Reno, Sew Sofia, Ribbonworks Design Studio, Discover Hope Financial, and Quiltery. Each sponsor reflects a shared belief in the power of purposeful products and global impact. Their partnership fuels the movement to equip and empower girls in Zambia-one stitch, one purse, one transformed life at a time.

How It Works:

  • Enrollment runs now through September 30

  • Sew purses and raise support throughout September

  • Update your purse counts as you go and earn badges.

  • Reporting cutoff is October 3.

  • Watch the live prize ceremony on October 15

Why It Matters:

A $10 purse isn't just fabric and thread-it's a gateway to dignity, education, and hope for girls in underserved communities.

Sew Powerful lives out its mission by creating purposeful products that change communities-things like school uniforms, reusable hygiene pads, soap, and farm-fresh food. In Zambia, the organization provides good-paying jobs to local team members who "do well by doing good," and they're supported by thousands of passionate volunteers around the world.

With an exceptionally low overhead rate, Sew Powerful ensures every dollar goes further. "You can give with confidence," said the founders. "We're careful stewards of every gift we receive."

About Sew Powerful:

Founded as a Christian ministry focused on empowerment, Sew Powerful equips Zambian communities with employment, dignity, and practical resources. Every program-from sewing centers to feeding initiatives-is designed to help people pursue life in all its fullness and create local jobs for local impact.

In 2025 the organization will serve 35,000 girls with it's signature Sew Powerful Purse Program. They will also feed over 9,000 children daily in partnership with Convoy of Hope.
