Mr. McKeen's decision to join the U.S. Air Force was driven by financial challenges that had become a barrier, preventing him from attending college. He acknowledges that his choice to join the military was one of the best decisions he has ever made, as his time serving helped him mature and taught him the true meaning of leadership and selfless service.
After his retirement, Mr. McKeen hoped to continue positively impacting others' lives, particularly in finance, which he believes is one of the most significant factors holding people back. His drive to help others led him to mentor individuals of all ages in financial management, guiding them in creating a better future for themselves and the generations to follow.
Academic and Professional Achievements
With the financial barriers removed, Mr. McKeen went on to earn an associate degree in aircraft armament systems technology from the Community College of the Air Force. In 2020, he graduated cum laude from Columbia Southern University, earning a bachelor's degree in business administration. Additionally, he has obtained numerous credentials, including a general life and health license from the Alabama Department of Insurance and Series 66, Series 7 and Security Industry Essentials certifications from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. His academic achievements have been crucial to his success as a finance adviser.
In addition to his educational background, Mr. McKeen is also the recipient of several awards for his contributions and excellence. He has been recognized as the New Adviser of the Year and Fast Start of the Year, which have placed him in the Top 5% at First Command Financial Services Inc. His military achievements include being honored as the Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Year, as well as being recognized and awarded by the Secretary of the Air Force.
Finding Success at a Young Age
Mr. McKeen credits his success to his upbringing and early involvement in competitive swimming, which began when he was six years old. By age 10, he had earned his first national record. His early experiences in competitive swimming instilled a strong drive to excel, lead and inspire others.
Outside of his profession, Mr. McKeen enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle, playing volleyball and golf, going to the gym and scuba diving. Looking to the future, he aims to continue his current career path with aspirations to advance within First Command Financial Services. He aims to become a district adviser role that will enable him to help more clients with financial education and mentorship.
