A group of French nuns running a soup kitchen has successfully relocated in San Francisco, after being threatened with eviction due to soaring rent prices. Their move was made possible through the generous support of philanthropist and peak performance coach Tony Robbins.

Robbins first learned about the plight of the Fraternité Notre Dame Mary of Nazareth nuns in 2016. After facing a significant rent increase at their previous location in the Tenderloin district, the nuns were at risk of eviction. Robbins helped cover their rent. Then, he teamed up with Salesforce co-founder Mark Benioff to purchase the nuns a building in San Francisco’s Mission District for $750,000. After years of navigating the city’s red tape, the nuns have finally moved into their improved space, where they continue to prepare and serve meals for those in need.

“In the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges and obstacles, their servant hearts never wavered in their mission to be a force for good in this world,” said Robbins of the nun’s persistence.

Robbins, who was raised in poverty, has a big heart for food insecurity. In 2022, he created an anti-hunger initiative along with David Beasley, who served as the executive director of the United Nations World Food Programme. Their goal is to provide 100 billion meals within 10 years. Just two years after launching the initiative, Robbins announced that they had already received commitments to provide 30 billion of those meals in conjunction with the Tony Robbins Foundation, Feeding America and other nonprofits.

While Robbins is known for his business results coaching and business growth events, he maintains that fulfillment doesn’t just come through financial success but through serving a greater cause. In his words, “The secret to living is giving.”

Robbins said that the new home for the soup kitchen is “proof that when we come together with a mission bigger than ourselves, we can create real impact.” Located at 1930 Mission Street, the new space offers improved facilities for meal preparation and service, enhancing the nuns’ capacity to assist those in need.

Robbins has counseled four U.S. presidents, entertainers from Leonardo DiCaprio to Green Day and record-breaking athletes like Serena Williams. His New York Times bestselling books, results coaching and transformative business and personal development events — including Unleash the Power Within and Date with Destiny — have empowered more than 100 million people around the world.
